Neuropsychological Interpretation

Neuropsychological Testing is one step toward establishing an accurate diagnosis and identifying brain strengths and weaknesses. The use of neuropsychological information should NOT STOP THERE.

Sometimes the results from cognitive testing can seem confusing. The results can be reviewed in a simple, clear way that applies directly to your life. Results can be used to guide a client and/or loved ones in how to use strengths to work around weaknesses, to reach the highest quality of life possible. Loved ones and care teams can also make changes to better support a patient’s health, safety, and wellbeing.

OPAL Institute staff suggest that we go over cognitive testing results together, using the results to guide steps such as:

  • How can I go back to work or engage in productive activities?
  • How can I live safely?
  • How can I enjoy leisure activities again?
  • How do I maintain the best brain and body health possible?
  • How can I succeed in school or work when I need to learn new information?
  • How can I get along with family members with less conflict?
  • How can I have more motivation to do the things I want to do in life?

Feel free to contact OPAL Institute about the process of understanding and implementing neuropsychological or cognitive testing results. We typically work with people who have had testing completed for issues related to aging (such as degenerative dementing illnesses). If you are looking for cognitive rehabilitation following a traumatic brain injury, we’ll be happy to suggest referrals.

Medical and psychological experts who have already completed or gained access to neuropsychological evaluations are encouraged to refer patients struggling with aging changes, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or other psychological stressors for ongoing implementation of coping strategies and ways to optimize cognitive health and quality of life.
