C. Chyrelle Martin, Psy.D.
I am a clinical geropsychologist with special interest in treating older adults who are struggling with adapting to changing circumstances, such as the loss of a spouse, family member, or job; health issues; retirement; or change of location or level of autonomy. I use an integrative approach to therapy with a special emphasis on collaborative cognitive behavioral techniques like thought restructuring, activity scheduling, relaxation training and other stress management techniques, and reminiscence therapy. Researchers have found that purposefully changing patterns of behavior and/or thinking provides the best means of reducing unhappiness and distress.
I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University. I have worked in community mental health programs as well as state mental hospitals. In these settings, I evaluated and treated individuals with dementia, traumatic brain injury, and severe mental illness. I wrote the problem solving and stress management group therapy protocol used by the Oregon Department of Corrections, and also provided individual and group therapy and psychological assessment to individuals placed at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.
I also function as an expert witness for the courts. As part of my forensic work, I provide in-depth cognitive and psychological assessment and treatment recommendations for adults of all ages.
