Therapy

OPAL Institute staff work with individuals or families in therapy to help older people and/or their family members address issues such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Fears of death and dying
  • Bereavement
  • Adjustment after major medical problems (e.g., stroke, heart attack)
  • Family stressors
  • Understanding, working with, helping loved ones
  • Assertiveness/boundary issues
  • Self-care
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory strategies
  • Communication skills
  • Using cognitive strengths to succeed in jobs or other domains (and compensating for weaknesses)
  • Behavioral strategies to manage medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, smoking cessation)
